Presentation

Greetings to you! Bonjour à tous!

I enjoy meeting and visiting with people. Since the 1970s, I have invited many out of state and for that matter, out of country college students for holiday meals and family celebrations. Many times they are French speaking because French is my second language. Also, I have studied some Latin for science use, Spanish, German and the Native American language, Lakota. A good way to understand a people is to talk and pray in their language. In Lakota, the word for the sacredness of God is Wakan; the word for children is wakanija. They hold children to be dear just like all of us do or should. We are all children.

Doing my best is important to me. For 20 years, I taught French, biology and human anatomy and physiology to about 3,000 junior and senior high students. Teaching is the love of my life. Now retired, I tutor students. I just met one of my first students this past summer. He was doing yard work for my elderly neighbor. (If you get to know me, you know I like to visit.) Not knowing who he was, I complimented him on his kindness. As it turned out, he was one of my kids. He commented that he talks about me all the time. Was that good or bad? His story was about remembering the little things.

During finals, I gave Rice Krispy treats to my students on study days. Finals were spread out for a week with 3 tests and 3 study periods a day. I gave students who were diabetic sugar-free chocolate candy bars, something special. These kids got left out of too many treats. My student is now a minister at a local church and this is one of his stories. Its nice to be remembered for the little things!

I treasure the time and memories I have being with my family. This past spring, I found an uncle I have not seen for 54 years through free online reverse white pages. Its important to hold loved ones near to your heart and keep in touch. I have been working on my family genealogy; even attempting to write in Danish using an online dictionary to a cousin Ive met through the Internet. I have no understanding of Danish; imagine what my translations are like. Lucky for both of us, she speaks some English.

In the time I have been at Spogg, I have met and visited in French and English with kind and interesting people. We basically have the same needs in life. Of course, its fun to pass some time playing computer games.  Dont forget to use the Internet as a tool to discover more about yourself and your world.

Happy trails to you, until we meet again, LiliMae
